Three brand new formats from Small World

Small World launched ProcrastiNation, Sing My Song and Bargain King at this year’s MIPTV.

ProcrastiNation. The new game show which tackles a problem that we all deal with in a fast paced, high pressure environment, that tests contestants’ skills in a diverse range of challenges. The longer contestants take to start each task – the better! Will you wait or will you play?

Sing My Song is the new reality show that’s all about the song, bringing the music format to a whole new level. Four famous artists become coaches who scout for the best singer-songwriters with the best songs. But only one songwriter can be the winner… and only one song! China’s number one hit format showcasing creation and performance of original songs is now available worldwide.

Also new from MIPTV is Bargain King, a hit game show that sees two teams of celebrities battle it out to discover who’s the best at guessing the value of different flea market finds and antiques. The team who makes the most money progresses to the finale and competes to be crowned that week’s ‘Bargain King’. It’s all about bluffing, guessing, buying, selling, bargaining and having fun.

Aito debuts Fake News in DC

Leading Finnish production company Aito Media tackles one of the most burning international topics by launching brand new entertainment format Fake News at the Realscreen Summit in Washington DC – the event which will be held straight after Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Fake News builds on a phenomenon highlighted by the past US presidential elections. It is getting increasingly hard to separate real news from fake news. The timing for our show is perfect,” says Ilkka Hynninen, CEO of Aito Media.

In the brand new format, celebrity contestants are faced with exactly this challenge. Their tasks range from separating real news from fake, to creating fake news of their own and telling incredible stories from their own life.

“The audience is addicted to bogus and totally fake news. We want to harness this addiction with a show that is at the same time entertaining but also exposes the way we consume media,” says Eero Hietala, the creative director and Chairman of Aito.

The format will be distributed in the global market by Small World IFT.

Small World IFT’s Grandpas Over Flowers sets course for Italy

Los Angeles, 8 December 2016 – Hit reality format Grandpas Over Flowers, also known as NBC ratings smash Better Late Than Never, is now set for adaptation in Italy, it was announced today by Los Angeles and London based format company Small World IFT.

The deal, brokered by Small World in collaboration with Endemol Shine Italy, will see a local version of the show making its Italian debut on RAI 2 in 2017. The series will be produced by Endemol Shine Italy. This latest adaptation follows the recent recommission of a second season of US version Better Late Than Never by NBC, following the huge success of the first series earlier this year, which topped the ratings charts in its 10pm slot across the whole season.

Created by CJ E&M Corporation, the original Grandpas Over Flowers secured record-breaking ratings on tvN in South Korea for three seasons. The heart-warming reality format features four veteran stars and their porter as they hit the road on a fish-out-of-water backpacking adventure of a lifetime, navigating unfamiliar cultures and settings as they travel to various countries and fulfil challenges to tick off their “bucket list”. In the US the series featured renowned actors William Shatner and Henry Winkler, American football legend Terry Bradshaw and world champion boxer George Foreman, who are all confirmed to return for the second season.

Tim Crescenti, President at Small World IFT, said, “I’m very excited to see the success of Grandpas Over Flowers build with this first commission in Europe. We have created a new genre of unscripted comedy combining humour, entertainment and adventure, as viewers get to follow these living legends on a journey of a lifetime that sees them learning as much about themselves as they do about new cultures. Grandpas Over Flowers is an inspiring, funny and an across-the-board family ratings smash. We can’t wait to take the Italian viewers on this fandamntastic viaggio! ”

Orsetta Violante Balsamo, Head of Formats Acquisitions and International at Endemol Shine Italy, added, “We’re very excited to be embarking on this new adventure with the help and support of our friends from Small World. We’ve been tracking Better Late Than Never since it was launched as Grandpas Over Flowers in Korea and I trust the time is ripe for it to blossom in Italy.”

NBC has renewed summer reality series Better Late Than Never for a second season.

Over the course of its four-episode first season, Better Late Than Never averaged a 1.8 rating in adults 18-49 and 8.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen most-current ratings — live-plus-seven numbers with live-plus-same day substituted for the most recent weeks, in which delayed viewing numbers are unavailable.

The series stars Henry Winkler, William Shatner, Terry Bradshaw, George Foreman and comedian Jeff Dye exploring Asia together on a group excursion — traveling to Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; Hong Kong; and Phuket and Chiang Mai, Thailand.

“Like everyone else, we fell in love with all the adventures Henry, William, Terry, George and Jeff faced as they educated themselves and adapted to new customs in foreign cities,” said Paul Telegdy, president, alternative and reality group, NBC Entertainment. “This innovative format allows for unprecedented escapades that cut through the clutter and grabbed viewer’s attention. We can’t wait to see what places they explore and how they adapt to their environment in season two.”

No location has yet been set for the series’ second season. Winkler, Shatner, Bradshaw, Foreman and Dye are all set to return.

Better Late Than Never is executive produced by Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Winkler, Jason Ehrlich, Alex Katz and Tim Crescenti. Universal Television Alternative Studio produces the show in association with Storyline Entertainment, Small World IFT and CJ Entertainment & Media. It is based on the CJ Entertainment & Media show Grandpas Over Flowers, which airs in China and South Korea.

And, again, it held that score with a smaller lead-in from America’s Got Talent. Got What It Takes? premieres on CBBC in the UK

Got What It Takes? is the first ever talent show where the mums are the judges!

Presented by X Factor star Lauren Platt, the ten episode series premieres on 6 January 2016 on CBBC at 4.30pm.
http://bbc.in/1O02OG5

Based on Small World’s Romanian format MOM MADE ME A STAR, this musical reality show celebrates the extraordinary talents of eight 11-14 year-old stars and their mums as they undertake challenges in a musical boot-camp, each one hoping to be crowned the star of the show and receive the once-in-a-lifetime prize of performing at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2016.

During each 30-minute episode, the young singers will also learn important lessons about the realities of the music industry and life as a ‘pop-star’ behind the glitz and glamour. Industry professionals and pop sensations are sprinkled across the series to deliver an inside scoop into the music business, and mentor contestants in the build up to the series finale.

In the first episode, David Tench, Music Director of The Voice, and S Club 7’s Bradley McIntosh, set the eight hopefuls a creative musical group challenge, which is fraught with opposing musical tastes and forgotten lines.

Meanwhile, the mums are met by the Games Guru, Kevin Adams, choreographer and personal trainer to the stars, who sets them an adrenaline-charged zorb ball challenge, to give the winner’s child another chance of showing off their talent.

After a raft of competitive stages, the destiny of the remaining young hopefuls is in the hands of their mums as they vote for their favourite singer; they must stay on top of their game to win the ultimate opportunity of performing at Radio 1’s Big Weekend!

Small World marks tenth anniversary

London, 28th September 2015 – Los Angeles and London based formats company Small World IFT is set to debut a host of new hit formats sourced from partners around the world, including a new collaboration with South Korean network JTBC, as the company celebrates its 10th anniversary at MIPCOM 2015.

Small World IFT has secured format distribution on two JTBC titles ahead of MIPCOM. Unique entertainment show Abnormal Summit sees comedic hosts exploring some of the “accepted truths” in their country by inviting a group of young people to their Abnormal Summit. In a parody of the political G12 summits, these ex-pat delegates, all well immersed in the host country’s culture and fluent in the local language, offer fascinating observations from their home nations. A celebrity guest joins the debate as they ask: are these national traditions and viewpoints normal or abnormal? More than 60 episodes of Abnormal Summit have aired in South Korea, with series also airing in Turkey and China to strong ratings.

Also from JTBC, Crime Scene is a game show format where everyone is a suspect. The mystery unfolds as players discover various clues from re-enacted crime scenes whilst one player must try to mislead the others. If five contestants correctly identify who the actual perpetrator is, they walk away with the prize. However, if the “criminal” successfully deceives the rest of the group, they alone take the money home…

Small World’s game show portfolio includes the innovative Sofa Survivors from TV Format Fund, Shy Barmeli, Ori Dror, which discovers whether it’s possible for contestants to survive on virtual love alone. Shut away, with only a computer and the audience at home to help them, who will fulfil the challenges and ultimately win the audience’s affections? Small World’s Lights Out! is the new fast-paced addictive quiz set in a chat show environment, packed with entertainment, jokes and fun. The show features a clever host, a witty celebrity guest and four sharp and outgoing contestants, who take centre stage to battle the Lights Out! board. But they don’t need to be a genius, as in Lights Out! all the answers are numbers and close might just be good enough.

Small World will showcase Better Late Than Never at MIPCOM, based on the ratings-winning original format from South Korea’s CJ E&M Corporation, Grandpas Over Flowers. Following four veteran stars and their porter as they hit the road on a fish-out-of-water backpacking adventure of a lifetime, Better Late Than Never is currently in production in the US for NBC, featuring renowned actors William Shatner and Henry Winkler, American football legend Terry Bradshaw and world champion boxer George Foreman.

Finally, musical reality talent format Mom Made Me a Star, from Romania’s Media Factory, will make its debut. Recently commissioned by the UK’s CBBC – the first ever UK adaptation of a Romanian format – where it will air as Got What it Takes?, the format offers an intimate look at the parent-child relationship, following talented young singers and their pushy parents as they learn about the realities of the music industry, whilst honing their talents with mentoring from a professional vocal coach. In the search for fame, will family, talent or reality prevail?

Tim Crescenti, President at Small World IFT, said, “At MIPCOM we’ll be celebrating ten years of captivating audiences with our unique formats, and we’re thrilled to mark this auspicious anniversary by showcasing such a diverse range of proven hits. This is our latest and greatest line-up yet, packed with the entertaining, positive and uplifting formats that have become our hallmark. We’re delighted and proud to have primetime hit shows on air or in production for a range of major networks, and are looking forward to the next ten, hopefully more, successful years!”

London, 17th September 2015 – Los Angeles and London based formats company Small World IFT has secured a UK commission for Mom Made Me a Star, the musical reality talent format from Romania’s Media Factory, as digital channel CBBC orders a new ten-part local version.

Celebrating the extraordinary talents of eight teenage singers, and the dramatic reality of the mothers behind them, Mom Made Me a Star originally aired in primetime on Prima TV. Offering an intimate look at the parent-child relationship, Mom Made Me a Star follows the singers and their pushy parents as they learn about the realities of the music industry, whilst honing their musical skills with mentoring from a professional vocal coach. Weekly visits from music celebrities will teach the teens the reality of what their job involves, highlighting that it’s not all parties and fun but also exhausting and life changing.

In each episode, the singers and their mums are separated to undertake a variety of challenges, with three spots to perform at the end of the show up for grabs. Full of emotion and information, Mom Made Me a Star is a unique opportunity to discover whether, in the search for fame, family, talent or reality will prevail. The Got What it Takes? format will be sold internationally by Small World IFT.

Eternal Glory offers hugely entertaining primetime viewing, as the country’s top sports stars compete against each other in demanding challenges that, despite being outstanding in their field, they will never have faced before. Kate and the team at ITV were quick to recognize the impressive performance of the format throughout Europe and this will be the ideal home to debut Eternal Glory to UK audiences.”

ITV’s Commissioning Editor, Entertainment Kate Maddigan said: “We have seen sports stars succeed in dancing, the jungle, cooking and the ice but I can’t wait to see them take on each other in these specially created challenges. This show is designed to reveal what makes sporting legends tick and I for one am excited to see under their skin and hear personal stories from their careers and beyond. With 8 of this country’s top sporting heroes going head to head we are in for a competition like no other and with Richard at the helm we hope to have plenty of laughs along the way.”

Full of personal stories and old rivalries reignited, Eternal Glory follows the eight stars, who will be of all ages and disciplines. All are prize winners in their own sport, but what else are they good at? Each episode comprises of four tough physical or mental challenges. One athlete will go home in each episode, determined by the ‘night duel’ game.  Finally only one will emerge triumphant and achieve Eternal Glory.

Eternal Glory has already achieved strong success throughout Europe. It recently completed its sixth season for NRK Norway, where it regularly attracted a 65% share, and Sweden’s series 7 concluded on 31st May 2015 with a 61% share and 2,58 million viewers.  Other European versions include three series in Belgium, as well as series for Denmark, Finland and Holland.

NBC announces celebrated, iconic cast for Small World’s epic adventure format BETTER LATE THAN NEVER aka GRANDPAS OVER FLOWERS with Henry Winkler, William Shatner, George Foreman and Terry Bradshaw.

Two Iconic TV Stars, Super Bowl Winner, World Heavyweight Boxing Champ and Comedian Ready for New Adventures in One-Hour Alternative Series Set in Asia

Universal City, Calif. June 9, 2015 – NBC announced today it is taking five celebrated men from across different genres on an epic adventure throughout Asia with its new alternative comedy series “Better Late Than Never.”

Henry Winkler, William Shatner, Terry Bradshaw, George Foreman and Jeff Dye will embark on the ultimate international excursion with no assistants, no limousines and no lattes, in search of an intimate, life-changing experience. The one-hour series will begin production in August, traveling to Tokyo, Kyoto, Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Chang Mai before heading home.

The five will navigate their way through each city — communicating with the local population, immersing themselves in local traditions and enjoying exotic food — all the while dealing with the unexpected twists and turns that any trip presents. As they check off items on their own personal “bucket list,” the five will rely on each other for support and encouragement and, in the process, demonstrate that friendship is the ultimate gift.

Henry Winkler, an award-winning actor, producer, writer and director, has had recent starring roles in such series as “Parks and Recreation,” “Royal Pains,” “Childrens Hospital” and “Arrested Development.” He is, of course, known best to many by his iconic character, the Fonz, from the ABC series “Happy Days.” William Shatner, an Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor, director and writer, is best known for his acclaimed work that includes starring roles in television classics “Star Trek” (as Capt. James T. Kirk) and “3rd Rock from the Sun,” as well as more recent series “The Practice” and “Boston Legal,” among many others.

Terry Bradshaw has been an NFL analyst and studio co-host on “Fox NFL Sunday” since 1994. One of the best quarterbacks of his generation, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for 14 seasons and won four Super Bowls on Steelers teams that are considered some of the best in the history of the NFL.

In one of the most successful post-athletic transition to the business world, George Foreman remains a household name with his wildly popular George Foreman Grill, which has registered sales exceeding 100 million. Currently he is championing his online premium meat market: The George Foreman Butcher Shop. A member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and a gold medal winner in the 1968 Olympics, Foreman was a two-time world heavyweight champion in the 1970s and ended his professional record at 76-5 with 68 knockouts.

Comedian Jeff Dye placed third on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” early in his career and has since brought his brand of funny to several networks, including MTV (“Girl Code,” “Money From Strangers”) and a Comedy Central special. He tours nationally and was a host on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover Home Edition.” He is currently co-starring on NBC’s new Tuesday night reality series “I Can Do That.”

Winkler will serve as executive producer along with reality veteran Jason Ehrlich (“The Bachelor”) Tim Crescenti (“I Survived a Japanese Game Show”) , and multi-award-winning producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (“The Bucket List”).

Better Late Than Never” is a Universal Television production in association with Storyline Entertainment. The successful original series, “Grandpa Over Flowers” is produced by CJ Entertainment & Media and currently airs in both China and South Korea.

Star China discovers Miss Country Girl

miss-country-girl2

Singapore-based distribution/production agency, Bomanbridge Media, has brokered a deal for its partner, Small World IFT, the Los Angeles and London-based formats’ company, with Star China International Media to produce a local version of the hit reality makeover series, Miss Country Girl.

This follows a previous deal with TV 3 in Thailand last year for the format.

Originally produced by Media Factory for Prima TV in Romania, Miss Country Girl is a competitive reality show that transforms country girls into empowered young women. The series will make its debut in China later this year with a 13 episode series to be produced by Starry Productions, a division of Star China International Media.

Aegena Tay, Bomanbridge Media Director of Development said, “Following our deal in Thailand last year of Miss Country Girl, China was our next dream for Asian localization. We identified this show as a perfect fit for the Chinese audience and look forward to implementing it with the cultural nuances that China requires. We are confident our partner Star China will produce an excellent show, with a great success story.”

Vivian Yin, Chief Representative of Star China International Media and VP of Starry Production said, “Star China is well known as a producer of the top formats in China. Everyone is looking for the next big hit in China and we are sure to claim it with Miss Country Girl. We highly value our partnership with Bomanbridge Media and thank them for bringing us this inspiring project.”

Tim Crescenti, President at Small World IFT, commented, “We’re delighted to expand on the international reach of Miss Country Girl with this significant deal in China, brokered by our Asian partner, Bomanbridge Media. The series has already proven to be a fantastic success in Thailand as well as Romania, and will now reach a huge audience in China. Unlike other transformational reality shows, Miss Country Girl is incredibly warm-hearted and redefines what “beauty” truly is, proving that anyone – from anywhere – can show their beauty to the whole country.”

Now in its sixth season in Romania, where it repeatedly out-performs international reality format staples and scores highly across all demographics, Miss Country Girl transforms unsuspecting natural beauties from all over the country into natural superstars who realize they can be, and do, anything they want.

Six celebrities – musicians, models, actors and comedians – are sent to remote villages in their country with a very special mission – to find the most beautiful young women to represent their area. Just six girls are selected to travel to the capital city for a boot camp on all facets of modeling and beauty – where they will be trained and judged by the very celebrities who chose them. Each series culminates in a live grand finale, as one girl is crownedMiss Country Girl. Created by Marius Toader, the success of Miss Country Girl has also led to spin off seriesI’m a Country Boy and Country Girls and Country Boys.
