Small World IFT’s fast-growing format Grandpas Over Flowers scores local adaptation in Turkey

Los Angeles / London, 10 May 2017 – Los Angeles and London based format company Small World IFT can today announce the latest international adaptation of ratings-winning reality format Grandpas Over Flowers, also known as NBC hit Better Late Than Never, as a new local version goes into production for Turkey’s Show TV.

Local producer Bloom Medya has completed filming the first season of the new Turkish version. Shot in India, Nepal and Vietnam, the series features a female cast of iconic entertainment legends. The series is slated to air on Show TV in the summer. The deal with Show TV was concluded by Small World IFT alongside Sera Film, its representative in Turkey.

This new local adaptation follows the recent commission of an Italian version for RAI 2, which will air starting 22 May 2017, and the recommission of a second season of the US hit Better Late Than Never by NBC. The first US season, starring William Shatner, Henry Winkler, Terry Bradshaw and George Foreman – who are all confirmed to return for season two – topped the ratings charts in its 10pm slot across the whole season. Small World IFT has also signed format options for the series in Poland (Golden Media), Israel (Sabres Group) and Ukraine.

Created by CJ E&M Corporation, the original Grandpas Over Flowers secured record-breaking ratings on tvN in South Korea for three seasons. The heart-warming reality format features four veteran stars and their porter as they hit the road on a fish-out-of-water backpacking adventure of a lifetime, navigating unfamiliar cultures and settings as they travel to various countries and fulfil challenges to tick off their “bucket list”.

Tim Crescenti, President at Small World IFT, said, “I’m thrilled to announce this latest adventure for Grandpas Over Flowers in Turkey, as this fantastic family format continues to make its mark on the international stage, and thank our friends at Sera Film for their help in concluding this new deal. Grandpas Over Flowers is a hugely fun combination of humour, entertainment and adventure, and it delivers huge ratings across all demos! I can’t wait to see more living legends embark on a trip that will see them learn as much about themselves as viewers do about them!”

Idil Belli, General Manager  at Sera Film, added, “We’re very pleased to collaborate with Small World in concluding this new deal with Show TV for Grandpas Over Flowers. It is a rare occasion that an unscripted title is commissioned for primetime in Turkey and this title has been seen as a strong alternative to dramas. It’s a great show for family audiences, and we know its light-hearted sense of fun and adventure will be a perfect fit for Turkish viewers.”
